Christmas Quiz Game - come and play!

Oh my, I don't remember exactly when I created this. It's been years, that's for sure.I've been meaning to revive it for a few Christmases now.
I finally went down into the basement today, dusted off my old PowerMac G3!! (For those this doesn't mean anything to: pretty old Macintosh computer) and kept my fingers crossed that I could get it running.
Yay! It still works!
So, if you are game, why don't you go here to play the Very-famous-Christmas-Tree-Game! (You'll need sound.)
It's kind of cheesy, definitely gets annoying after a few minutes, and the preloader is missing (please allow approx. 10 - 30 secs for loading).  But I had tons of fun building it back then.
Happy Holidays, everybody!

Queen of Consignment

This is a hugely exciting project. One of my coworkers is going it alone and starting her own business.
A consignment store in Vancouver! We were all very happy for her and were looking for ways to help her with this endeavor. Another coworker and myself offered to help her with her branding.
She was looking for something "ageless, timeless, feminine, classy, chic, elegant, eclectic, glamorous, unique, fun." She was also looking to keep the colours to a minimum, that way it would be "less expensive to reproduce business cards, signs, etc." 'Simplicity' was another keyword she used. (Let me say this : it is so nice when the people you do work for actually know how to verbalize their needs.)
The other lady did the script and I added the graphic and put it all together.
Oh, one more thing:  the future Consignment Queen graciously modeled for me so she would have an original graphic she can relate to. This is a first version. Let's see how she likes it.
Personally, I am pretty happy! :-D

Coming Home!

Just came home from that awesome trip. Had a lot of fun. Ate the most delicious food, exercised like a mad woman, sat in the hot tub and frequented every coffee shop in "the village". *Sigh*

Did miss those cats of mine, though...

Vacation!

I am going on a holiday! Not until next Wednesday - but I am pretty sure that I will be too busy with handing out Halloween candy and trip preparations to create anything. I will be checking in before Wednesday and see what everybody's up to. I won't be gone too long, just a few days and will be back in approximately 2 weeks.

Thanks everybody, I will bring back souvenirs for all of you! Toodles!

Родина-мать's other Son

I have always been fascinated by Soviet propaganda. I am mesmerized by those giant statues they put all across the USSR. One of the most famous ones (and one of the biggest in the world) is Родина-мать зовёт! - literally translated "Mother Motherland is Calling", but mostly referred to as "Mother Russia". Located in Volgograd, Russia, she is commemorating the Battle of Stalingrad. When the memorial was dedicated in 1967 it was the tallest sculpture in the world, measuring 85 metres (279 feet) from the tip of her sword to the top of the plinth. (Lady Liberty is 151 feet tall.)
See her here.  She is not a pretty lady, that's for sure. But boy, is she ever impressive! I've always wanted to go see her in person. Not sure if I can make it in time, though, because the lady's leaning due to groundwater level changes causing movement of the foundations. Unfortunately, the leaning is rapidly getting worse. One of these days mum's gonna fall flat on her face. Maybe it's a good thing that I won't be there when that happens. Still: crying shame, this. They didn't fix her to her foundation - she is only held in place by her weight, like so many of us. :-D

If one would go pay her a visit, one would first come across the very statue up above, well to a degree. :-P
Васи́лий Ива́нович Чуйко́в or Lieutenant General Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov  was a member of the Red Army during World War II. He is also referred to as "Mother Russia's Son" (she had many, mostly members of the military). He's pretty impressive in size as well, but nowhere near mum's magnitude.

Well, things have changed quite a bit since those days. Lots of people have put down their weapons and left behind old concepts of so-called "enemies" and The Leningrad Cowboys have entered the scene! (Who are, by the way, not from Leningrad, nor are they cowboys, those guys are are Finnish! :-o)   Whoohoo!

They invited the virtuosos of the Russian Red Army Choir to a little jam session back in the 90's. They hit it off right away.  If I am not mistaken, they've been working together a couple of times since then.

Sooo, in short: up there you see a more peaceful, musically inclined and culturally curious Russian son. He was always around but didn't have much of a chance in the past. He still enjoys exercise a lot - nothing wrong with that! *Rrrooow* :-D

I recommend having a look and a listen to this amazing  Playlist. Personally, I  was blown away.

One, two, ... TEN!!

I know - not really a big deal for y'all. But I counted 10 Outlet followers this morning when I woke up! I'm. So. HAPPY!
I know - this is nothing compared to the three gazillion followers so many of you have. But: I am very happy.
I know - it shouldn't really be about the follower count, it should be about the content - and yes, pitiful, veery pitiful of me. Yet: I am truly happy. :-D
And last but not least: I know - the 80s finally have caught up with me -I am convinced that all those commercials I am exposed to every day are to blame.

THANK YOU ten Outlet followers! I do appreciate your love and devotion very much! :-D

Introducing: The Trooper Award!

Since there are so many cool awards floating about, I thought to myself: why not contribute one, too!
This one goes out to Mrs U at Mrsupole's ...ahem for taking up the fight against an army of evil health invaders.
Never. give. up!

It also goes out to Subtorp77's (basstuna) mom for facing the most frightening procedures although she's scared even of IVs like myself. This graphic might be kind of... well... puzzling to her, I imagine, but it is meant in the best possible way, really. All the best Mrs Subtorp! :)

I don't feel like attaching any rules to it. If you'd like to pass it on and you know someone who is deserving, go ahead. If not, fine by me.

Dia de los Muertos

When I was about 10, I saw this exhibition at a European museum about the "Day of the Dead" in Mexico. I absolutely loved it and it has stuck with me all those years. The Mexican demonstrators outside the museum with their drums and traditional Mexican music have stuck with me, too. They distributed flyers, letting everybody know that the musem had cheated them and had taken their national heritage without compensation...

Voice Lessons the 2nd

Ok, since I got a couple of cats out of my system the last few days I dared another - serious! - attempt at the previously mentioned Singing Practice Workbook.
Totally out of season - I have voodoo dolls and sculls on my mind right now (stay tuned!) -  but I thought it's just nice and fitting to do...

Voice Lessons

This is what happens when you spend most of your time with cats...

A friend of mine asked me to create a graphic for her Singing Practice Workbook  - she is a professional Voice Teacher.
We've been discussing and swapping ideas for a few days now - and all I can come up with is - a singing cat!
No! It does not appeal to the target audience! No! Training your voice is really not about cats!
I know, I KNOW!
I just have to get this cat out of my system. Hopefully I can be serious for a few days after this...

Mein Freund der Baum

Somewhat crudely translated from German:

My Friend the Tree

I've been meaning to see you for a while
my old friend of childhood days.
I had so much to tell you and I knew you'd understand.
As a little girl I came to you with all my childhood sorrows.
I've always felt secure with you and all my worries fleeted.
When I cried in your arms you'd stroke my hair with your green leafs
my old friend.

My friend the tree is dead
he fell in early morning dawn.

You fell in the early morning,
I was too late.
You will never sway in the wind again.
You have to lay by the alley and
some who pass by
do not honour the relic of life and
yank at your green twigs
that are bowing dying toward the earth.
Who is going to give me the peace
that I'd found in your shadow now?
My best friend is lost
who connected me to my childhood.

My friend the tree is dead
he fell in early morning dawn.

Soon a house of glass and stone will grow
where they've cut him down.
Soon grey walls will grow
where he lies in the sunshine.
Maybe there will be a miracle
I am going to wait in secrecy.
Maybe a garden will blossom in front of the house and
he will resurrect to new life.
But he'll still be small and little
and even if many years pass
he'll never be the same.

My friend the tree is dead
he fell in early morning dawn.

Have a listen

Do it for Bruno

There are black bears in our neighbourhood. We named the one who comes to visit us sometimes Bruno.
On garbage collection day I have to get up really early to drag the cans to the curbside. We can't leave them outside over night because of all the wildlife and you just never know when the garbage truck is going to show up.
"Do it for Bruno" is my mantra for those early mornings. It's all worth it.

Putting it all together

Voilà, my new Starbucks tumbler wrapper.

Ingredients

• Mandrake was used by superstitious folks for good luck.
• Mistletoe is an ancient healing plant that helps aid digestion and prevent arteriosclerosis. It was believed to protect against fire, evil spirits and witchcraft.
• Witches would make an ointment of henbane in order to fly and take on the shape of animals.

There - a perfect recipe for a great cup of tea!
I'll put that on my Starbucks travel mug. ;)

Hello Flecki
Medium: Illustrator again

This piece is
really not all that fresh. I drew this a few years ago. My cat has actually grown a new dark grey spot right on her nose since then. :-o
"Flecki" is another language and means "Patches" or "Dottie". She likes singing in the bathroom at night, suntanning under my desk lamp, and getting brushed.

I've never believed in shameless self promotion and I've always thought that there may not be much to say. On a blog. Such as this.
But who's to say that blogging is only about "words", "sentences", "paragraphs"? I have stuff to show!
After all: A tiger is a tiger not a lamb, mein Herr. :D

So let this be the beginning of a long, and I mean looong blogging career.
Thanks for taking a look.
